Among prominent insulation materials in residential and industrial applications, polyurethane (PUR) and polyisocyanurate (PIR) are considered as best cold insulations. PUR and PIR are extensively used in oil, gas and petrochemical applications, residential and construction, pharmacy and food industries, piping and processing. PUR and PIR foams are available in different shapes, including: pre-formed blocks and boards, pre-formed pipe sections, injection foams and sprayed foams.
Injection foams are mostly used for exceeded surfaces or complicated geometries or cavities with difficult to non access. In such insulations, the foam is injected by pressure through the cavity. This approach requires experienced personnel and appropriate injection tools.
The two constituent materials of polyurethane insulation foams, which are isocyanine and polyule, are stored in two different tanks with separate pressure control valves and pumps. For insulating, the two materials are combined together through specified pressure and mixture ration, via injection outlet. The materials the make a chemical reaction which forms the polyurethane foam. The foam expands inside the cavity and takes all the space. Since the foam is formed inside the cavity, all holes and voids are filled, yielding in a perfect insulation layer. The pressure behind injection gun and the pressure due to foam expansion make the foam to penetrate into all holes, voids, cracks and all available spaces.
